Children with Selective Mutism are Being Taught to Find Their Voice

There is a difference between a child being shy and a child having selective mutism. Children with selective mutism, an anxiety disorder, are fine at home, but shut down in social situations. Fortunately, new intensive, classroom-like immersion programs have been found to be highly successful in making gains with children with selective mutism. One of the first programs was held at Florida International University. Read about their program and learn more about selective mutism here.
