Owners of One Nevada Pizzeria Make It a Point to Hire Workers With Disabilities

Smiling with Hope Pizza in Nevada is known for more than serving up delicious New York Style pie. The pizzeria, owned by Walter and Judy Gloshinski, makes a point to hire teens and young adults with disabilities. The couple does this because they feel it needs to be done, stating that there “are no jobs out there for these kids, so they are being prepared for nothing.” Prior to opening up the pizzeria, Walter was a special education teacher and created programs where kids with disabilities worked in pizzerias and bakeries. At Smiling with Hope Pizza, the couple takes care to place individuals in jobs that are best suited to their needs and talents. As of March, the pizzeria had six employees, including the Gloshinskis, two volunteer chefs and two employees with developmental disabilities.  The Gloshinskis hope to grow the business and with the largely positive response they are receiving from their community, they should have little problem doing so.
